My setup

Currently the “Digital Everywhere” in my house is limited to a MythTV box, an Apple PowerBook and a Slim Devices Squeezebox. My kids are too young to have computers in their rooms, but I expect everything to become connected once they do get computers in their rooms. But before I get ahead of myself, let me explain the current setup and the features it brings.

The MythTV box
This is basically the digital hub in my house. Here is a list of what it provides:

  • TV recording (PAL analog TV)
  • DVD playback
  • Video playback (DivX)
  • File hosting - especially music for the Squeezebox
  • powerbook.jpg
    The PowerBook
This is a four year old 12″ PowerBook G4, so nothing fancy here. This is what we use it for:

  • Internet
  • Watching TV/movies in the bedroom
  • Office applications
  • Games for the kids
  • Digital Photos (iPhoto + Canon A80)
  • Ripping CD’s (iTunes)
  • sb3_front_500.jpg
    The SqueezeBox
The last piece of the setup is a Slim Devices Squeezebox 3. All the music is on the MythTV box and is streamed from there. I have the SqueezeBox connected to a set of MicroPod speakers and an active MicroSub subwoofer.
